In 2005,Hurricane Katrina left some areas of New Orleans so badly damaged that many people were unable to repair their homes. This resulted in a lot of uninhabited property, vulnerable to the semi-tropical environment of South Louisiana. To paraphrase Randy Newman’s song, “…some got lost in the flood, some got away alright”. This 1939 cottage got away alright despite being vacant since the storm. There is some degree of termite, rain water and vine damage but on the whole, this Craftsman style home is in relatively good condition and its historical contribution to the City can be maintained. The design program almost triples the building area from about 900 to 2,600 square feet. The completed project will include four bedrooms; four bathrooms; an open-plan, vaulted ceiling living, dining and kitchen space; two-story gallery; porte-cochere and landscaping. Construction is expected to begin Spring or early Summer, 2021.
