Not everyone gets to live with their work, but my wife Sherry and I, with some of our children lived there throughout the construction, which spanned 5 years. The project involved the gutting and complete renovation of an 1,800sf, 3-story townhouse All the excitement of changes and new spaces as well as the quotidian of dust and debris were our life for those years. This was a speculative renovation as an investment project for Sherry and me, in partnership with my brother, Richard Fleming. I did all the construction work myself except for mechanical/electrical. This is the 6th home that I’ve built with my own hands.

The exterior of the building, with the exception of doors and windows, remained unchanged; it’s part of a larger development and Home Owners Association that limits exterior modifications. But every surface of the interior was replaced and many of the interior spaces were completely re-designed and built, including a new kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, custom casework, etc. We also designed and installed a new patio and surrounding gardens.
