Bell Street Residence
This is our new home in New Orleans: about 140-years old, in a neighborhood alongside one of the oldest navigable waterways in the city. The exterior walls of the existing house were built from salvaged boards that were once a barge that floated down Bayou St. John to transport European goods to the French Quarter and further shipping on the Mississippi River. The rear of the house was renovated, with a roof-top observation deck, in the 1980's.
The design concept is simple and respectful, adding a second floor which will be set back from the street and extending/replicating the historic architecture. The addition will be structually independent from the existing house to prevent any stress on the old bargeboard structure. There will also be a new kitchen in the front of the original house as well as some other, minor interior renovations and updating.
Projected construction start is Autumn, 2018.
