Skallerup

Skallerup Residence, McLean, Virginia

New, approximately 5,000 square-foot residence perched on the edge of cliffs overlooking the Potomac River. The house curves and embraces a very large oak tree and is on a densely wooded site. The site is very steep, dropping 50′ from the top of the up-hill side to the main entry of the house. The cliff then drops about 100′ more. The building is semi-subterranean which allows for privacy from neighbors as well as thermal efficiency. The structure is a combination of concrete, steel and wood systems. The exterior finishes are stucco, stone and slate roofing.
